Published in 2024 in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, this article discusses research conducted with people living with dementia, carers, and support service providers about their lived experience of physical activity. It highlights both the challenges and facilitators presented by organised groups, service provider skills and qualities, and environmental factors, and the influence of these factors on shaping the physical activity experience of people living with dementia.

The findings have relevance to engagement with physical activity generally and particularly when living with a long term condition.

The Copenhagen consensus statement on physical activity and ageing was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine in 2019. The statement resulted from review and discussion of the existing evidence surrounding fitness and health, cognitive functioning, functional capacity, engagement, motivation, psychological well-being, and social inclusion in older adults.
